Reflections on Literacy

Hi! I'm Ryann. I'm an avid reader, professional writer, parent, and educator. After leaving a career mostly focused on using science, data, and language to convince readers to buy more stuff, I thought I'd prefer to focus on creating more critical readers who can see right through my persuasive strategies. 

Why is this site called "other people chewing"? There is something so distracting about other people chewing. Audible chip chomps, slurpity mouth noises, or the passing glimpse of a quivering jaw creaking open for a crunch: these things immediately capture my entire attention, and it feels like there is nothing I can do about it. 

Reading something amazing does that, too. Everyone deserves an escape from distraction. Check back soon for classnotes and discussion links.
