Literacy, Language, & Learning

A collection of evidence-based resources for teaching, learning, and writing about how we communicate.

In the summer of 2023, Vancouver Island University welcomed its first learning cohort to the Literacy, Language, and Learning Graduate Diploma. Over the next two years, our group of exceptional educators will be learning the science of literacy, and gaining insight into teaching using structured literacy practices. Most importantly, we are learning how to apply what we know about learning to improve how we teach people to become literate.

Because literacy is the gateway to opportunity and advancement. Literacy is a basic human right.

It is magical having access to so many curious brains with so many ideas, and so much evidence-based research to share. There are not enough adorable notebooks on the planet to contain this wealth of information, so otherpeoplechewing.com will act as a hub to catch all of the knowledge being thrown our way.

This is a living project, so please come back often as you build your own neural pathways to understanding literacy, language, learning.
